"Born in Camden New Jersey on the sixth day of July 1978, I am Shyrita Washington, the youngest of three children.
I come from a line of ministers.It goes back to my grandfather who is now a Bishop and my mother who is a Pastor.
I have been singing since the age of six and performing since the age of eight.
Singing at my grandfathers church is where I got my first chance to sing in front of a congregation.
By the age of fifteen, I had become the choir director at,"Love of Christ Church of Faith," where my mother Pastored.
After two years of that, my mother encouraged me to write my own material. With that in mind, I began to write. I now have a number of songs written in the genre of Gospel.
In June of 2000, I performed a song I wrote entitled,"Open Your Eyes," in the,"USA Talent Search," held in Delmar Delaware.I won first place for my category and also the overall prize.
Within the same month, I sent this song off to the,"Coca Cola True Talent Artist Search,"hoping to be chosen as one of the eight contestants. To my suprise, I was chosen! It was held at the "BET Blackhall" in Washington D.C. and sponsored by; BET,Def Jam, Avirex, Mecca,Yamaha, and of course, Coca Cola.
I went to New Orleans and auditioned for "American Idol" in 2004.
In the winter of 2004, the production of my first album "Only Believe" began.
In the summer of 2005 my first single was released("Your Praise").
